The First NAM First Ladies Summit (Sharm El Sheikh, 15-16 July 2009) provided a good opportunity for a rich interactive debate and a fruitful exchange of views on best practices and lessons learned on ways and means to address a number of persisting global crises, on top of which the global food crisis.
The global food insecurity situation continues to represent a serious threat to humanity. The Food and Agriculture organization estimates that the number of people suffering from chronic hunger and malnutrition could increase by a further 100 million in 2009 and pass the one billion mark. The World Food Summit of Heads of State and Government which will be held in Rome from 16 to 18 November 2009 provides a good opportunity for a follow-up of the NAM First Ladies Summit.
The Second Nam first ladies Summit aims at addressing the many aspects of hunger and malnutrition, and identifying concrete steps that NAM first ladies could play to address these issues, including through the exchange of national experiences in ensuring womens’ accsess to ressources, particularly Land and Credit, as well as Human Capital and knowledge
In this vein, the Second NAM First Ladies Summit will be held in conjunction with the World Food Summit on November, 15th, 2009 at the FAO Headquarters in Rome in full coordination with the Food and Agriculture organization and its Director General
