It is a great pleasure to welcome the visitors of the Official Website of the Fifteenth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, which Egypt will preside over the period from the 11th till the 16th of July 2009 and host it in the City of Sharm El Sheikh.
Almost half a century ago, Egypt was one of the Founding Countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, which has evolved from an entity of 25 member countries that gathered in its first Summit in Belgrade in 1961, into a Movement that currently comprises 118 member countries from Africa, Asia, Europe, South and Central America and the Caribbean.
While committed to preserving the NAM’s set of principles and accomplishments, Egypt will work during its presidency of the Movement to develop new policies responsive to the political, economic, social and humanitarian challenges that NAM member countries are facing in the Twenty-First Century.
I look forward to welcoming the Heads of State and Government of the NAM member countries and all the participants in its Fifteenth Summit, and I am confident that this Summit will provide for an exceptional opportunity for exchanging views and ideas on the current issues on the international arena, as well as intensifying cooperation and coordination among NAM member countries in favor of their interests and the aspirations of their peoples.
